31 more COVID-19 deaths reported:Death toll surges to 13,408
A total of 31 more COVID-19 related deaths that occurred yesterday (12) were confirmed by the Director-General of Health Services today pushing the death toll to 13,408.
According to the Government Information Department, 11 females and 20 males are among the deceased.
A total of 23 people who are above 60 years of age are among the deceased while 8 of them are between 30 and 59 years of age.
Litro Gas revises LP gas prices again
The Litro Gas company has revised its prices of LP gas cylinders, just hours after announcing a hike in prices.
The price of a 12.5 Kg domestic LP gas cylinder has been reduced by Rs. 75. Accordingly, the new price of the 12.5 Kg cylinder is Rs. 2,675.
Meanwhile the price of the 5 Kg cylinder has been reduced by Rs. 30 and the 2.5 Kg cylinder by Rs. 14. The new prices will be Rs. 1,071 and Rs. 506 respectively.
Litro Gas had initially announced an increase in LP gas prices last night (10).
The price of a 12.5 kg LP gas cylinder had been increased by Rs. 1,257 to Rs. 2,750 while the price of the 5 kg cylinder was increased by Rs. 503 to Rs. 1,101.
The price of the 2.5 kg cylinder had been hiked by Rs. 231 to Rs. 520.
Meanwhile Laugfs Gas had increased the price of the 12.5 kg domestic gas cylinder by Rs. 984 with the new price reported as Rs. 2,840.
The price of the 5 kg Laugfs Gas cylinder was increased by Rs. 393 with the new price also increasing to Rs. 1,136.
Teachers & Principals to continue strike
The Teachers’ and Principals’ Trade Union Alliance today decided to continue the strike demanding a one-time increase in teachers’ salaries.
Speaking to the media today (12), the General Secretary of the Ceylon Teachers Service Union, Mahinda Jayasinghe stated that there is no purpose in continuing to hold discussions if the Government does not change its stance.
Emphasizing that none of the trade unions will accept the Education Minister’s proposal to divide the relevant salary increase into three installments and grant it to teachers, the trade unions stated that they will continue their strike.
Meanwhile, Ven. Yalwala Pannasekera Thero, the Chairman of the All Ceylon United Teachers Union stated that the unions are yet to discuss and make a decision on continuing academic activities at schools when schools with less than 200 students reopen on 21 October.
Litro Gas Prices increased with effect from Midnight on Sunday
Litro Gas Lanka today announced the revised prices of its LP Gas cylinders.
The company says that the price of a 12.5 kg LP gas cylinder has been increased by Rs. 1,257 per cylinder with effect from today (10).
Accordingly, the new price of a domestic LP gas cylinder (12.5 kg) will be Rs. 2,750, an official said.
Meanwhile the price of the 5 kg Litro gas cylinder has been increased by Rs. 503 and the 2.5 kg cylinder by Rs. 231.
Accordingly, their new prices are Rs. 1,101 and Rs. 520 respectively.
Litro Gas, the largest importer and supplier of LP Gas in Sri Lanka, was expected to announce its final decision today (10) with regard to increasing the price LP Gas.
AG tells CA that charges against Karannagoda will not be carried forward
The Attorney General informed the Court of Appeal that the charges against Former Navy Commander Admiral of the Fleet Wasantha Karannagoda would not be carried forward.
Admiral of the Fleet Wasanna Karannagoda is the 14th suspect in the case filed by the Attorney General on charges including abduction and enforced disappearance of 11 youth from Colombo, at the Permanent High Court Trial-at-Bar.
On the 4th of August, the Attorney General informed the Colombo Permanent High Court Trial-at-Bar that the charges against former Navy Commander Admiral of the Fleet Wasantha Karannagoda would not be carried forward.
On Wednesday (13), an application filed by Wasantha Karannagoda was called up in the presence of Justice Sobitha Rajakaruna and Dhammika Ganepola at the Court of Appeal.
Sri Lanka confirms another 35 coronavirus deaths
The Director General of Health Services has confirmed another 35 coronavirus related deaths for October 09, increasing the death toll in Sri Lanka due to the virus to 13,331.
According to the figures released by the Govt. Information Department, the victims confirmed today includes 18 males and 17 females.
One of the deceased, a female, is below the age of 30 years while four of the victims are between 30-59 years.
Meanwhile the remaining thirty fatalities are persons aged 60 years and above.
Talks between PM and Teacher-Principal Trade Unions end without solution - Final decision tomorrow
The negotiations between Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa and the representatives of the Teacher-Principal Trade Unions at Temple Trees today (12) ended without a definite solution. Accordingly, the trade unions are set to assemble a meeting tomorrow (13) in discussing the proposals made during the discussion and making a final decision.
The Prime Minister has agreed to pay the salaries in two phases instead of the three phases proposed by the Cabinet Sub-Committee.
It was in the Prime Minister's proposition to pay one part of the salary in January next year and the other part in January 2023.

Sri Lanka’s COVID fatalities increased to 13,296
The total number of people, who fell victim to COVID-19 infection in Sri Lanka, moved up as 29 more fatalities were confirmed by the Director-General of Health Services on Friday (October 08).
The new development has pushed the official death toll from the virus outbreak in the country to 13,296.
Latest victims include 18 males and 11 females, the Department of Government Information said.
According to official data, 23 deaths were reported among elderly people aged above 60 years. In addition, 06 people aged between 30-59 years have also succumbed to the virus infection.

The total number of people, who died of COVID-19 infection in Sri Lanka, moved up as 23 more fatalities were confirmed by the Director-General of Health Services on Monday (October 11).
The new development has pushed the official death toll from the virus outbreak in the country to 13,377.
Latest victims include 11 males and 12 females, the Department of Government Information said.
According to official data, 19 deaths were reported among elderly people aged above 60 years. In addition, 03 people aged between 30-59 years and one male below 30 years have also succumbed to the virus infection.
A complaint lodged with the Police Headquarters requesting to arrest Stalin
A complaint has been lodged with the Police Headquarters requesting the arrest of the Secretary of the Ceylon Teachers Union Joseph Stalin. This complaint has been filed by Ape Jana Bala Party.
The party calls on the police to take legal action against him on charges of violating quarantine regulations and gathering people illegally.
The trade union action launched by the Ceylon Teachers Union and the Teachers' and Principals' Trade Union Alliance is still in progress and teachers had organized protests all over the country on the day before yesterday.
Prices of wheat flour, cement to go up
One kilo of wheat flour and a bag of 50kg cement has been increased with immediate effect, the suppliers said.
A spokesman from the Serendib Flour Mills (Pvt) Ltd said they have increase the price of 1 kg of wheat flour by Rs. 10 from today.
Meanwhile, a spokesman from the Sanstha Cement Corporation has increased the price of 50kg cement bag by Rs.93 from midnight yesterday.
Accordingly, one bag of cement will now be sold at Rs. 1,098 from its earlier price of Rs.1,005.
However, the price increase for the above commodities is to be officially announced today.
Sri Lanka confirms another 38 Covid-19 deaths
The Director General of Health Services has confirmed another 38 coronavirus related deaths for October 08, pushing the country’s death toll due to the virus pandemic to 13,267.
Accorindg to the figures released by the Govt. Information Department, the Covid-19 deaths reported today includes 20 males and 18 females.
Twelve victims are aged between 30-59 years while the remaining 26 are ages 60 year and above.
