Young wordmiths represented Sri Lanka on the global stage following the conclusion of the World Youth Scrabble Championship 2026 in Nairobi, Kenya on Sunday.
Hosted at the Trademark Hotel in Village Market, the flagship international tournament brought together elite young talent from over 22 countries.
The competition serves as one of the premier global platforms for junior players, testing rigorous vocabulary knowledge, tactical strategy, sharp focus and quick decision making skills under pressure.
The national contingent comprised ten talented players chosen by the Scrabble Federation of Sri Lanka through its official selection framework.
Representing top schools from across the island, nine male players and one female player earned nominations to wear national colours.
The male line up featured Inam Irshad and Imad Irshad from Gateway College, Colombo alongside Kevan Croos, Kyaan Perera and Omiru Nandasiri from S. Thomas’ College, Mount Lavinia.
Pasindu Wijewardena from Stafford International, Aathif Kamil Rishard from Royal College and Tharin Kariyawasam and Aayush Haputhanthiri from Richmond College also made the squad.
Girls’ High School, Kandy student Kaumadee Balasinghe stood out as the sole female player in the Sri Lankan contingent.
