Sri Lanka opened its medal account at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow on Thursday, with para athlete Palitha Bandara clinching silver in the men's Discus Throw F42-44/F61-64 final.
Bandara threw a personal best of 46.84 metres to secure second place in a closely fought competition.
Welsh athlete' Aled Davies claimed the gold medal, while Akeem Stewart of Trinidad and Tobago settled for bronze.
For the 37 year old Sri Lankan, the achievement carries added significance as it marks his second successive Commonwealth Games silver, following a similar result at the Birmingham 2022 edition of the Games.
Bandara's latest throw of 46.84m also represents a new personal best, underlining his continued progress in the event.
