Sri Lanka Treasury Bill sales fall short of Rs. 100 billion target

Sri Lanka’s short-term Treasury bill yields edged upwards at Wednesday’s government debt auction as total sales fell short of the official target.

The Public Debt Management Office conducted the weekly primary market sale in Colombo, where state authorities successfully raised Rs. 86.48 billion against an initial offering of Rs. 100 billion.

Yields on three-month paper experienced a slight increase of two basis points to settle at 9.34 per cent, attracting strong demand with Rs. 68.09 billion accepted out of a Rs. 50 billion allocation.

In contrast, interest rates across longer maturities held steady, with six-month bills remaining flat at 9.44 per cent after accepting Rs. 9.34 billion of the offered Rs. 25 billion.

Similarly, twelve-month yields stayed unchanged at 9.95 per cent, securing Rs. 9.03 billion against an identical Rs. 25 billion target.

Debt management officials confirmed that both the six-month and twelve-month instruments have been made available on tap to absorb remaining market demand.
