An emergency Executive Committee meeting of the Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) is scheduled to be held today (07), according to Assistant Secretary Dr. Hansamal Weerasinghe.
He stated that the purpose of the meeting is to discuss the issues that have arisen concerning recent medical transfers within the Ampara District.
The GMOA has already launched trade union action in the district, protesting against what it alleges to be arbitrary medical transfers carried out by the Ampara District Health Administration.
Dr. Weerasinghe further noted that, as the government has yet to respond to the matter, the GMOA will decide at today’s meeting on the next course of trade union action to be taken.
