Samarappulige Niraj Roshan, also known as ‘Ali Roshan’, has been sentenced to 15 years in prison by the Colombo High Court for keeping an elephant without a valid permit. He was also fined Rs. 20.6 million, and the elephant was ordered to be taken by the authorities. The verdict was given by Justices Manjula Thilakaratne, R.S.S. Sapuvida, and Lanka Jayaratne after a long trial. Three other people charged in the case were found not guilty and released.
