Former Director of the State Intelligence Service, Senior DIG Nilantha Jayawardena, who was on compulsory leave, has been dismissed from the police service with immediate effect.
The decision was made by the National Police Commission.
Commission Chairman Lalith Ekanayake said that Jayawardena was removed following his conviction on all charges during a disciplinary investigation.
At the time of the Easter Sunday attacks, Jayawardena was serving as the Director of the State Intelligence Service.
The Presidential Commission of Inquiry had recommended action against him for failing to act on intelligence warnings prior to the attacks.
