Sri Lanka in crisis due to latest surge of Covid-19 patients: GMOA

Sri Lanka is facing a severe crisis due to the Covid-19 pandemic and a large number of infected patients are being reported islandwide, the Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) said.

The GMOA urged the government to immediately take steps to control the increasing number of Covid patients.

Addressing a media briefing following a meeting of the GMOA executive committee, the Secretary of the GMOA, Dr. Senal Fernando said that if the number of patients exceeds the health capacity, the health staff including the doctors will not be able to handle it.

Therefore, measures should be taken to increase the capacity of treatment centers, increase the capacity and facilities of beds in intensive care units, ensure adequate oxygen storage and provide adequate personal protective equipment to health personnel, he said.

The GMOA also urged the government to increase the capacity of treatment centers, ICU beds and to ensure adequate oxygen storage and provide adequate personal protective equipment to health personnel.
