The Free Lawyers Association alleges that the government plans to dismantle its centralised digital treasury management platform in a move that threatens state fiscal stability.
Speaking at a press conference held at the Flower Road office of former President Ranil Wickremesinghe on Thursday (05), FLA spokesman Rajith Keerthi Tennakoon claimed that authorities intend to replace the modern Integrated Treasury Management Information System (ITMIS) with an outdated legacy platform.
According to the former Govenor, successive governments have spent approximately USD 15 million since 2010 to implement the advanced digital infrastructure, making a return to the system established in 1993 a major technological setback.
Tennakoon warned that abandoning the upgraded software threatens financial controls and breaches campaign commitments to modernise governance.
He also highlighted economic pressures, pointing to 12 post-election taxes that have heavily burdened small enterprises and low-income families.
Furthermore, Tennakoon called for answers regarding unaddressed public sector financial irregularities, citing substantial losses at Sri Lanka Post and the Treasury alongside duplicate disbursements recorded across state agencies between January and September 2026.
The activist warned that dismantling modern financial infrastructure will compromise state expenditure oversight and erode public confidence in state management.
