Prison officials produced the Buddhist monk before the Court of Appeal in Colombo today.
He had been the subject of an open warrant for his arrest.
Ven. Gnanasara Thero was arrested on outstanding warrants following an order issued by the Court of Appeal.
The warrants arose from contempt of court proceedings linked to the case concerning the disappearance of journalist Prageeth Eknaligoda.
The Colombo Magistrate's Court ordered on Sunday (04) that he be remanded in custody until his appearance before the Court of Appeal the following day.
After considering the submissions placed before it, the Court of Appeal directed the Commissioner General of Prisons to take the necessary steps to give effect to the remaining period of the sentence.
