Tea Estate Worker Dies in Wasp Attack in Lindula

A 77-year-old tea estate worker was killed and seven others were injured after a wasp attack at the Lindula Waltrim Estate today (21).

The eight workers were reportedly engaged in their usual duties when they were suddenly attacked by a swarm of wasps.

The incident is believed to have occurred after a wasp nest attached to a tree within the tea plantation was disturbed amid the adverse weather conditions prevailing in the area.

The deceased, a father of three, was a resident of the Len Thomas section of the estate.

The seven other workers who sustained injuries were taken to Lindula Hospital, where they received treatment at the outpatient department before being discharged.

Meanwhile, the deceased worker’s body has been transferred to the Nuwara Eliya District General Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
