A 37-year-old man was fatally injured in a machete attack allegedly carried out by his younger brother during a domestic dispute in the Pethigamuwa Kanda area of Anguruwatota.
Police said the incident occurred after the victim, a resident of Haltota, allegedly assaulted his mother on the night of September 18. His 35-year-old brother reportedly intervened and attacked him with a sharp weapon in an attempt to protect their mother.
The injured mother was taken to the Horana District General Hospital for treatment.
According to police investigations, the deceased had frequently been involved in arguments and physical confrontations at home while under the influence of alcohol. Police also said he had previously assaulted his father, who sustained injuries and was treated at the Horana Hospital.
The victim’s younger brother has been arrested in connection with the incident.
Anguruwatota Police are continuing investigations into the circumstances surrounding the fatal attack.
