Caroline Jurie Acquitted in Mrs. Sri Lanka Crown Case

The Colombo Magistrate’s Court has acquitted Caroline Jurie and Chula Padmendra of charges relating to the removal of the crown from Pushpika De Silva during the 2021 Mrs. Sri Lanka pageant.

The case arose from an incident at the Mrs. Sri Lanka competition held at the Nelum Pokuna Theatre in Colombo, where De Silva had been crowned the winner. Jurie and Padmendra had been accused of forcibly removing the crown and assaulting De Silva.

Following a lengthy trial, Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama ordered the acquittal and release of the defendants.

Delivering the decision, the Chief Magistrate said the prosecution had failed to establish the charges against the defendants beyond reasonable doubt.

The court was also informed during the proceedings that Chula Padmendra had passed away.

With the court finding that the prosecution had not sufficiently proven the allegations, the case against the defendants was accordingly concluded with their acquittal.
