Remanded Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa has been granted permission to receive cooked food prepared at home while in custody, according to the Department of Prisons.
Prisons Media Spokesperson Senaka Palletenna said the approval was given following a request submitted on behalf of the MP.
The Colombo Magistrate’s Court recently ordered Namal Rajapaksa to remain in remand custody until September 18 after he was arrested by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC). His arrest relates to allegations of accepting bribes in connection with the controversial Airbus deal.
Palletenna said additional security measures have been introduced around the ward at the Colombo Remand Prison where Rajapaksa is being held.
He added that arrangements have also been made to allow up to three people to visit the parliamentarian each day.
Meanwhile, Rajapaksa’s mother, former First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa, visited the Welikada Prison this morning (07) to check on her son’s well-being.
SLPP National Organiser and Parliamentarian Rohitha Abeygunawardena also visited the prison this morning to see Namal Rajapaksa.
