Sri Lanka has recorded 96,040 dengue cases so far this year, according to the National Dengue Control Unit (NDCU).
The latest figures show that 10,155 cases were reported during August alone, while the country’s dengue-related death toll has reached 72.
The Western Province remains the most affected area, accounting for 50,760 cases. The Southern Province has reported 13,931 infections, followed by the Central Province with 8,788 and Sabaragamuwa with 7,910.
At district level, Gampaha has recorded the highest number of cases, with 20,444 infections. Colombo follows with 19,008 cases, while Kandy has reported 7,043.
Kalutara and Matara have recorded 6,181 and 6,154 dengue cases respectively.
The NDCU said 50 Medical Officer of Health (MOH) areas across the country remain classified as high-risk areas for dengue.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation as the number of reported infections remains high across several parts of the island.
