Minor Flood Warning Issued for Low-Lying Areas Along Mahaweli River Basin 

The Irrigation Department has issued a minor flood warning for several low-lying areas along the Mahaweli River Basin, citing the possibility of additional rainfall in the upper catchment areas and the recent opening of the spillway gates of the Kotmale Reservoir.

According to the department, a minor flood situation could develop within the next 24 hours if the current conditions persist.

The warning covers low-lying areas in the Divisional Secretariat Divisions of Udunuwara, Udapalatha, Yatinuwara, Doluwa, Ganga Ihala Korale, Gangawata Korale and Harispattuwa.

Residents living near the Mahaweli River in the affected areas have been advised to remain alert and take the necessary precautions to safeguard themselves and their property from possible flooding.

Meanwhile, disaster management authorities have also been urged to implement proactive measures, while the public has been encouraged to closely monitor the situation as further rainfall is expected.
