Four individuals have been arrested following the seizure of 4,250 tonnes of sugar deemed unfit for human consumption during a raid in the Petiyagoda area of Peliyagoda.
Police said the operation was carried out by the Walana Central Anti-Corruption Strike Force after acting on intelligence information.
During the raid, officers recovered approximately 85,000 sacks of sugar with an estimated value of Rs. 850 million.
The four suspects arrested in connection with the seizure are residents of Kaduwela, Angoda, Piliyandala, and Hatton, police said.
The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) has launched further investigations into the incident.
