Three young motorcyclists were arrested by the Norton Bridge Police after allegedly attempting to evade a routine inspection while travelling with a group visiting waterfalls on Poson Poya Day.
According to police, around 30 youths from the Kuliyapitiya area had travelled on 15 motorcycles yesterday (29), making their way through Norton Bridge to visit the Gartmore, Moray, Laxapana and Aberdeen waterfalls.
Police officers attempted to inspect the motorcycles during the journey, but three riders allegedly fled the scene instead of stopping.
The trio was later apprehended following a police chase.
Investigations revealed that the arrested youths had been riding motorcycles without valid driving licences, police said.
The suspects, aged between 17 and 21, are due to be produced before the Hatton Magistrate’s Court today (30).
