The Department of Meteorology has forecast showery conditions across several parts of the country today (30), with fairly heavy rainfall and strong winds expected in some areas.
According to the department, showers will occur at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and North-Western provinces, as well as in the Galle, Matara, Kandy and Nuwara Eliya districts. Some locations in these areas are likely to receive fairly heavy rainfall exceeding 50 mm.
Meanwhile, showers or thundershowers are expected at several places in the Uva Province and in the Ampara and Batticaloa districts after 2.00 p.m.
The Met. Department also warned that strong winds of around 40–50 kmph may prevail at times over the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Southern, North-Central and North-Western provinces, in addition to the Trincomalee District.
The public has been advised to take necessary precautions to reduce the risk of damage from temporary localized strong winds and lightning associated with thundershowers.
