Fisherman Reported Missing After Departing from Hikkaduwa Fishing Harbour

Police in Hikkaduwa have launched an investigation following a complaint regarding a fisherman who went missing while aboard a fishing vessel that had departed for fishing operations.

According to the complaint lodged by the vessel’s owner, the boat had left the Hikkaduwa Fishing Harbour yesterday (02) with a crew engaged in fishing activities when one of the fishermen was later discovered to be missing.

The missing individual is a 53-year-old resident of the Meetiyagoda area.

Reports indicate that a group of six fishermen had been onboard the vessel. The disappearance is believed to have occurred while the boat was operating approximately 15 nautical miles out at sea.

The crew reportedly realized one fisherman was missing when they searched for him during dinner that evening. The remaining crew members then informed the vessel owner, who subsequently reported the matter to the Hikkaduwa Police.

Investigations into the incident are currently underway.
