Kirindiwela Records Highest Rainfall as Heavy Showers Lash Western Region

The Department of Meteorology has reported intense rainfall across several areas, with the highest precipitation of 244 mm recorded in Kirindiwela in the Gampaha District during the past 24 hours.

The rainfall data, compiled from the department’s monitoring stations for the period between 8:30 a.m. on May 21 and 4:00 a.m. on May 22, highlighted Kirindiwela as the area receiving the heaviest downpour.

Veyangoda in the Gampaha District also experienced significant rainfall, with 238 mm recorded during the same period.

Meanwhile, Avissawella in the Colombo District received 230 mm of rainfall, marking another area heavily affected by the intense showers.

The latest figures indicate widespread heavy rainfall across parts of the Western Province as weather monitoring stations continue to track conditions across the island.
