The National Building Research Organisation (NBRO) has issued Level 2 and Level 1 landslide warnings for several areas in multiple districts as heavy rainfall continues to affect many parts of the country.
The warnings came into effect from 9:00 a.m. today and will remain valid until 9:00 a.m. tomorrow, with authorities urging residents in vulnerable locations to remain vigilant.
Under the Level 2 Amber alert, areas identified as being at heightened risk of landslides include Passara in the Badulla District, Neluwa in Galle District, and several divisions in Kalutara, Kandy and Ratnapura districts.
The Kalutara District areas under the Amber warning are Agalawatta, Baduraliya, Matugama, Horana and Walallawita.
In Kandy District, warnings have been issued for Pathahewaheta, Pasbage Korale, Akurana, Gangawata Korale, Panwila, Yatinuwara, Ganga Ihala Korale and Udapalatha.
Pelmadulla and Ratnapura in Ratnapura District have also been placed under the Level 2 alert category.
Meanwhile, a Level 1 Yellow warning has been issued for several other areas across Badulla, Galle, Kalutara, Kandy, Kegalle, Kurunegala, Matale, Matara, Monaragala, Nuwara Eliya and Ratnapura districts.
Authorities have advised residents living in landslide-prone areas to remain alert for signs such as cracks on walls and the ground, sudden water seepage and earth slips, while closely following instructions issued by disaster management officials.
