A Red warning for heavy rainfall has been issued across several parts of the country as worsening weather conditions continue under the influence of a low-pressure area near Sri Lanka, the Department of Meteorology announced.
According to the warning, intense showers are expected to persist over the coming days, raising concerns over possible flooding, landslides and weather-related disruptions in vulnerable regions.
The Department stated that very heavy rainfall exceeding 150mm is likely in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central and Northwestern provinces, as well as in the Galle and Matara districts.
Meanwhile, showers reaching around 100mm are expected in many other areas of the island.
Authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant and take precautionary measures to reduce the risk of damage caused by heavy rain, strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
Residents in high-risk areas are advised to closely monitor weather updates as adverse conditions continue to impact the island.
