Former Minister Johnston Fernando Released on Bail by Wattala Magistrate’s Court

Former Minister Johnston Fernando has been granted bail by the Wattala Magistrate’s Court, following proceedings held today (24) in connection with an alleged misuse of a lorry belonging to Lanka Sathosa.

The order was issued when the case was taken up before Kanchana N. Silva, who directed that the former minister be released from remand custody.

According to the court’s ruling, he was granted release on a cash bond of Rs. 25,000 along with four personal sureties of Rs. 500,000 each.

The case stems from an investigation conducted by the Financial Crimes Investigation Division into allegations surrounding the misuse of a lorry owned by Lanka Sathosa.

Fernando had been arrested alongside his eldest son Johan Fernando, younger son Jerome Fernando, and three other suspects, including a former Transport Manager of Lanka Sathosa, before being produced before court as part of the ongoing investigation.

The latest court order marks a significant development in the case, with further legal proceedings expected as the investigation continues.
