Sri Lanka Police has issued an official clarification regarding misleading information circulating on social media concerning the age limits for the latest police recruitment drive.
According to the Police Media Division, applications have been called under Gazette Notification No. 2482 dated March 27, 2026, for the recruitment of Police Constables, Woman Police Constables and Police Drivers to the Sri Lanka Police and the Special Task Force. Applications are to be submitted exclusively through the online application system, with the deadline set for May 8, 2026.
Police emphasized that the official age requirement for the posts of Trainee Police Constable and Woman Police Constable remains between 18 and 24 years. Meanwhile, applicants seeking the position of Trainee Police Constable Driver must be between 18 and 28 years of age.
The clarification comes in response to false claims being widely shared on social media alleging that the upper age limit for all available positions had been raised to 28 years. Authorities have firmly rejected these reports, stating that such information is inaccurate and not in line with the official Gazette notification.
Police further revealed that investigations are currently underway to identify and take action against those responsible for spreading the false information online.
The public has been strongly urged to disregard unverified social media reports and to rely solely on official Gazette notifications and announcements issued by Sri Lanka Police. Applicants have also been advised to ensure they meet the prescribed eligibility criteria before submitting their applications and attending interviews.
With recruitment already in progress, authorities stressed the importance of following official channels to avoid confusion and inconvenience for prospective candidates.
