LPL 2026 Set for Grand Return with Sixth Edition from July to August

Sri Lanka’s flagship domestic T20 cricket tournament is set to return this year, with the sixth edition of the Lanka Premier League (LPL) scheduled to be held from July 10 to August 5.

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) announced that the tournament will once again bring top local and international talent to the field, reinforcing the league’s growing status as one of the country’s premier sporting events. The latest edition will be played across four major venues: the Sinhalese Sports Club Ground and the R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium in Colombo, alongside the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium and the Rangiri Dambulla International Cricket Stadium.

The tournament, which first began in 2020, has steadily expanded its presence on the international cricket calendar, drawing attention from players and fans around the world. Organisers say preparations are already underway to ensure another high-energy season of franchise cricket.

Sri Lanka Cricket, the owner of the league, will conduct the tournament in partnership with The IPG Group, which continues to serve as the official event rights holder. Meanwhile, the online registration portal for foreign players is scheduled to open on May 4, paving the way for overseas stars to join the competition.

Samantha Dodanwela, a member of the SLC Executive Committee, will continue in his role as Tournament Director for the upcoming season. Officials expressed confidence that the 2026 edition will further strengthen the league’s reputation as a key platform for emerging Sri Lankan talent and international cricket entertainment.

With the countdown now underway, cricket fans across the island can look forward to another thrilling season of T20 action this July.
