Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa has declared that a major political strategy is underway to reclaim power in the New Year, signaling what he described as an imminent shift in the country’s political landscape.
Speaking at an event held today, April 20, Rajapaksa stated that his party is fully prepared for the anticipated change and is moving forward with a significant plan aimed at regaining political strength.
The remarks were made as activities at the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna headquarters on Nelum Mawatha resumed following the Sinhala and Tamil New Year holidays. The gathering was held under the patronage of Rajapaksa and the party’s National Organizer and Member of Parliament, Namal Rajapaksa.
The event drew the participation of party activists along with former and current SLPP Members of Parliament, marking the party’s formal return to political activity after the festive season.
Commenting on upcoming party events, Rajapaksa noted that this year’s May Day falls on a Poya day. As a result, the party will refrain from holding its traditional rallies and celebrations, opting instead for religious observances.
Reflecting on the recently concluded New Year season, the former President said that while the festival had been personally successful for him, many members of the public had not been able to celebrate in a satisfactory manner this time.
The statement is being viewed as a clear indication that the SLPP is preparing to intensify its political activities in the months ahead.
