Heavy Rains Forecast Across Several Provinces as Wet Weather Set to Continue Until Mid-May

The Department of Meteorology has forecast fairly heavy rainfall ranging between 75 mm and 100 mm in several parts of the country today, April 20, with multiple provinces expected to experience intense showers.

According to the Department, the Central, Sabaragamuwa, Western, North-Central, and Southern provinces are among the areas likely to receive the heaviest rainfall during the day.

Director of the Forecasting Division, Meril Mendis, stated that showers or thundershowers are expected in most parts of the island after 1:00 p.m., signaling a widespread spell of unsettled weather.

The public has been urged to remain alert, as the rainy conditions may be accompanied by strong gusty winds and severe lightning, increasing the risk of weather-related disruptions.

Officials further noted that the current spell of rain is expected to continue over the next few days, bringing temporary relief from the prevailing warm daytime conditions experienced in many areas.

The Department also indicated that this weather pattern may persist until mid-May, suggesting an extended period of wet conditions across the island.
