12-Hour Water Cut Hits Padukka Areas Amid Dry Weather Concerns

A 12-hour water cut has been imposed across Padukka and several surrounding areas today, as authorities respond to declining water levels caused by ongoing dry weather conditions.

The National Water Supply and Drainage Board (NWSDB) announced that the interruption will be in effect from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., temporarily disrupting supply to a wide stretch of residential zones.

Among the affected areas are Galagedara, Pinnawala, Wewelpana, Pitumpe, Meepe, Mawathagama, Padukka, Udumulla, Arukwatta, Weragala, Bope, Malagala, Kahawala, Millawa, Kotiyangoda, Poregedara, Angampitiya, Angammana, Meeriyagalla, and Yatawatura.

Meanwhile, a separate water cut that began at 8:00 p.m. yesterday in areas including Pelanwatta, Siddamulla, Arawwala, Niwanthidiya, Bokundara Road, Rathmaldeniya, Maharagama–Piliyandala Road, Moraketiya Road, Hiripitiya, Gorakapitiya Road, Niyandagala Road, Dolekade Junction, Kudamaduwa, and Pubudu Mawatha is scheduled to conclude at 8:00 a.m. today.

The NWSDB attributed the disruption to reduced water production at the Labugama and Kalatuwawa treatment facilities, where reservoir levels have dropped rapidly due to the prolonged dry spell. These plants are key sources supplying water to the affected regions, making temporary supply cuts unavoidable.

Residents in impacted areas have been urged to store adequate water in advance and use it sparingly during the interruption period, as authorities work to manage limited resources under strained conditions.
