NIC Services Limited as System Disruption Hits Registration Department

A temporary disruption in digital operations has prompted the Department for Registration of Persons to scale back its public services, as officials work to restore normal functionality.

In a statement issued today (April 8), Commissioner General M. S. P. Suriyapperuma confirmed that efforts are currently underway to repair the department’s computer system, which has affected its ability to carry out routine operations.

Amid the disruption, the department has introduced a limited service measure to accommodate urgent needs. Applicants requiring immediate assistance will be able to obtain their National Identity Cards (NICs) through the one-day service at both the head office and regional offices.

However, all other services have been temporarily suspended. This includes the verification of NIC details and the provision of English translations for both government and non-government institutions. Authorities have urged relevant organizations to rely on alternative arrangements during this period.

The department also announced that general public services and regular office operations at its head office and regional branches will remain inactive until further notice, underscoring the extent of the system setback.

Officials assured the public that once the technical issues are fully resolved, all services will resume seamlessly, restoring normalcy to one of the country’s key administrative functions.
