The Colombo Municipal Council has announced that parking charges within its limits will be reintroduced starting tomorrow (23).
Municipal officials stated that the decision was taken during a meeting of the council’s Standing Committee on Finance, with operations set to recommence from 6:00 a.m.
Parking fee collection had been halted from March 18 due to heavy traffic congestion and long queues of vehicles near fuel stations across Colombo.
However, authorities noted that the situation has improved significantly following the rollout of the National Fuel Pass system, which uses QR codes and vehicle registration numbers to regulate fuel distribution.
With shorter fuel queues and smoother traffic flow now observed, the council has determined that conditions are suitable to restore the standard parking fee system across the city.
