The Colombo Magistrate’s Court has granted bail to former Telecommunications Regulatory Commission Chairman and former Ministry Secretary Anusha Palpita in connection with an ongoing investigation into alleged unlawful asset accumulation.
The decision was made after the court reviewed arguments presented by officials from the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption and the defense counsel representing the suspect.
After considering the submissions, Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama ordered that Palpita be released on bail.
Palpita had been taken into custody in January by the Bribery Commission after he was unable to provide a satisfactory explanation regarding the source of Rs. 46 million in funds. The investigation into the matter is continuing.
