The National Building Research Organisation has released landslide early warning notices for several locations in the Nuwara Eliya and Badulla districts, following an assessment conducted at 8.00 a.m. today (20). The warnings will remain valid for the next 24 hours.
Under the Level 2 (Amber) alert, which indicates a moderate risk of landslides, residents in Nildandahinna and Walapane in the Nuwara Eliya District have been advised to be highly vigilant and prepared for possible ground instability.
Meanwhile, Level 1 (Yellow) alerts, signaling a lower level of risk, have been issued for Meegahakivula and Kandaketiya in the Badulla District, as well as Maturata and Hanguranketha in the Nuwara Eliya District.
Authorities have urged people living in these areas to stay alert for warning signs such as cracks in the ground, leaning trees, or unusual water flow, and to take precautionary measures to ensure their safety.
