A Police Inspector and a Police Constable have been arrested in connection with the disappearance of a service pistol and a magazine containing 10 rounds of live ammunition from the Matugama Police Station.
According to police, the missing firearm and ammunition were detected during a documentary audit, which revealed that the items could not be accounted for in official records. Following the discovery, an investigation was launched, leading to the arrest of the two officers.
Police said further inquiries are currently underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the disappearance of the weapon and ammunition.
